Monsterquest is a TV show shown on the history channel which investigates the sightings and stories about hidden and unknown animals. This type of investigation is termed Cryptozoology, or the science of hidden animals. It involves such creatures as Big Foot, or Sasquatch as American Indians call it and the famous Loch Ness Monster. The show strives to shed light on the mysterious sightings of these creatures and whether they are indeed real. The show began in 2007 and already has a set of DVD's showing the latest and best programs.

Why is Monsterquest so popular? This is because people are fascinated by these mysterious and often frightening creatures. Danger and fear surround them and they are often huge animals. People really want to believe that there are strange and wondrous animals out there. There have been many documentaries to drum up the public's interest. Similar shows featuring the supernatural and unexplained like "The X files" and "What if you saw….?" have helped to pave the way for this show. The though of actually seeing these weird and crazy monsters absolutely grips people and compels them to watch the show. Of course there are also a number of fake sightings.

Monsterquest has featured a section on the Chupacabra, or Chubacabra as it is sometimes called. This creature was first sighted in 1995 in Puerto Rico and is thought to have attacked and sucked blood from many farm animals. The name means "The Goatsucker" in Spanish. Eye witnesses claim to have seen a reptile with 2 legs, sharp claws and very sharp fangs. the people in Texas have experienced similar attacks on their animals. However their sightings of the animal are very different. The team for the show will examine sightings in both areas and try to catch the Texas one on tape.

Another example of the types of creatures that Monsterquest investigates is the six legged fawn. This little creature is not scary or gigantic but is definitely a phenomenon. It was found injured, after being attacked by dogs, in the woods near Armuchee, Georgia. It was taken to the nearby New Rome hospital where it was successfully treated. When it recovered it was sent to the University of Georgia for further investigation. The unique animal was in fact a fawn, or young deer, with 2 pelvises. Only when he treated it did the veterinarian discover the animal had 6 legs.

Ogopogo is another creature that will very likely be featured on Monsterquest. It was sighted in Lake Okanagan, in British Columbia Canada. This creature is similar to the famous Loch Ness Monster, of Scotland and the "Champ" in the USA. However it does appear to be a humped creature as opposed to one with a ling neck. It resembles a dinosaur like creature and some think of this animal as being some sort of Sea Serpent. Like its counterpart in Scotland it supposedly lurks in a very deep and quite large lake. There have been photographs taken and the documentary will attempt to examine proofs of its existence.
